The Director facilitates a climate of trust, respect, equity, and civility across the college.
The position also oversees the policies, procedures, and programs of the College's Employee Relations department, developing and improving programs related to employee performance, morale, and satisfaction.
This position maintains the highest level of integrity, confidentiality, and a commitment to creating an environment in which employees can perform and thrive.
The Director works with senior leadership and the Director of Professional Development as a strategic partner to address changing organizational and performance needs and promote employee engagement.
As part of the HR Leadership Team, the Director collaborates with the college community to support a high-performance work culture.
The Director has routine and ongoing contact and collaboration with a wide variety of college faculty and staff.
The Director understands the College's mission and strategic direction and provides information, analyses, and consultation on a wide range of employee relations matters.
The Director stays abreast of talent needs and trends, leveraging data to help analyze and identify faculty and staff issues, and works closely with Director of Employee Development in designing and facilitating educational experiences to support excellence in performance.
The Director communicates organizational culture, policies and procedures, tools, and resources to colleagues and internal clients.
Communication methods include presentations to large and small groups; writing reports, policies, procedures, and training materials; and consultations with senior leaders, managers, supervisors, and employees.
Responsibilities include overseeing performance management solutions, and handling employee grievances, investigations of alleged employee misconduct and other employment-related difficulties, termination or non-renewal of employment, and employee well-being programs.
The Director also supports the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for faculty and staff.
Duties/Functions Supports the developing and maintaining of a student-focused college culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance; Manages all aspects of employee relations for the College for all classifications of employees (faculty and staff).
The director offers a full range of consultative and programmatic services including, but not limited to, supervisory consultations related to performance and professionalism, conduct, disciplinary issues, and separations from the college (e.
g.
, terminations and non-renewals); and assistance to faculty and staff involving workplace concerns and disputes.
In support of senior staff, provides a variety of conflict resolution processes and strategies to faculty and staff to enable them to resolve disputes in the college setting.
Provides leadership in ensuring best practices on a wide range of employee relations issues; provides advice and guidance on complex and challenging issues.
Advises/refers faculty and staff on appropriate grievance procedures, advises supervisors and managers on corrective action procedures, and provides employee relations support to college departments Leads investigations into alleged violations of college policies, including Titles VII and IX, prepares investigation reports and provides guidance to academic and administrative teams on addressing the outcome of such investigations; manages the employee appeals processes.
Anticipates legal issues associated with recruitment, performance, and conduct matters.
Initiates, recommends, and implements best practices in all areas of employee relations.
Analyzes and evaluates data on retention and related issues, conducts exit interviews, and provides recommendations and counseling to management.
Provides advice, educational support, and assistance by interpreting policies and procedures and by counseling supervisors and employees as needed.
Assists the Chief Human Resources Officer in establishing goals and objectives for the Department; attends meetings as required representing the Department in personnel matters.
Investigates, analyzes, and formulates methods for handling special projects; oversees projects to completion and evaluates final results; prepares and reviews various reports and performs special projects; and serves as liaison with outside agencies on special needs and projects.
Investigates, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding personnel problems and/or issues.
Works with the Director of Professional Development to assess the HR training needs throughout the college and assists in developing and planning training experiences to meet the established needs; coordinates the implementation of ongoing and special interest training programs.
Serves as an internal consultant to college leadership, vice presidents, executive directors, deans, directors and managers on service standards, employee performance appraisals, performance improvement plans, productivity standards, and special program development and implementation.
Facilitates small, problem-solving groups within individual offices and serves as a facilitator for these groups in achieving organizational goals; facilitates the identification and resolution of organizational problems for management.
Develops methods for interaction between employees and managers concerning job responsibilities to enhance job satisfaction, supports the solutions of job-related problems to improve organizational effectiveness; assists in creating a work environment that emphasizes a commitment to service.
Partners with college leadership to understand the long-term institutional objectives, identify areas of opportunity and implement Human Resource interventions needed to meet the short and longer-term growth strategies; Partners in supervising the development and maintenance of actionable, proactive metrics that drive forecasting capabilities and strategic insights; Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills:
adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

Difficult Challenges Contacts Education Required A master's degree in human resources management, business/public administration, counseling, communications, adult education, or a related field and a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience related to employee relations; OR a bachelor's degree with significant experience (10
years) managing activities directly related to employee relations functions.
Education Preferred PHR /SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources)/SHRM certification is a plus but not required.
Experience Required Experience guiding supervisors and management in employee relations issues.
Experience in conducting a wide range of personnel-related investigations.
Experience Preferred Prefer experience in higher education, including employee relations experience involving academic faculty.
KSA Required Knowledge of federal, state, and local rules and regulations, trends, and changes related to human resources in the public sector.
Ability to handle difficult employment issues in a highly professional and expeditious manner.
Skilled in writing clearly and concisely, including presenting technical analyses and agreements with precision.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
